چکیده

Pump cavitation is the formation and subsequent collapse or implosion of vapor bubbles in a pump. It occurs when the absolute pressure on the liquid falls below the liquid’s vapor pressure. This paper describes the validation of cavitation inception on a radial flow pump which develops 21m of head at 26lps of discharge at its best efficiency point (BEP) of discharge while operating at a speed of 1500rpm. Design, operation and refurbishment of centrifugal pumps are strongly related to cavitation flow phenomena, which may occur in either the rotating runner-impeller or the stationary parts of the centrifugal pumps. The numerical simulation (ANSYS CFX software Release 13) is used to study the cavitation inception in centrifugal pump by varying water level in the cavitation well at constant speed condition. The computational grid was generated by CFXTurbo grid with H-Grid through the blade and flow passage. The flow simulation is executed in the rotation frame of reference. Standard (k-ε) model is used for the turbulence. Turbulent wall treatment; the volume of fluid model is selected for cavitation model. Upwind difference is used for solution scheme. Numerical results will be compared with experimental data in terms of head and NPSH.

Influence of Afterbody and Boundary Layer on Cavitating Flow

The characteristics of a cavitation water tunnel test setup and the experiments of cavitation around different models are given in this paper. Models of test are formed from combination of head and variable length afterbody. The experiments are performed initially with the smooth head and then with the roughened head. Cavitation initiates both in the wake and after the head. If the nose of mode...

Influence of nozzle geometry and injection conditions on the cavitation flow inside a diesel injector

Cavitation and turbulence in a diesel injector nozzle has a great effect on the development and primary breakup of spray. However, the mechanism of the cavitation flow inside the nozzle and its influence on spray characteristics have not been clearly known yet because of the internal nozzle flow complexities. In this paper, a comprehensive numerical simulation is carried out to study the intern...

Numerical Simulation of Partial Cavitation over Axisymmetric Bodies: VOF Method vs. Potential Flow Theory

A computational study of partial cavitation over axisymmetric bodies is presented using two numerical methods. The first method is based on the VOF technique where transient 2D Navier-Stokes equations are solved along with an equation to track the cavity interface. Next, the steady boundary element method (BEM) based on potential flow theory is presented. The results of the two methods for a di...
